Internet of Things: Definition and Characteristics

    The  EU Projects Research Cluster in the Internet of Things (IERC)  defines the Internet of Things (IoT) as a “ Dynamic global network infrastructure with self-configuring capabilities based on standard and interoperable communication protocols where physical and virtual “things” have identities, physical attributes, and virtual personalities and use intelligent interfaces, and are seamlessly integrated into the information network." The CASAGRAS (Co-ordination and support action for global RFID related activities and standardization) defines IoT as “A global network infrastructure linking physical and virtual objects through the exploitation of data capture and communication capabilities.
